Summer time flowers (and fruit!)

(The last one just to show I really WAS working....and did you ever try to take a picture of your right hand with your camera???--at least if your picture button is on the right side of the camera too!)

The problem with having flower beds is that they need constant up-keep. With all the rain we've gotten, the grass & small ground weeds have been worse this year than the big weeds, and they don't get noticed as soon as the large ones either.
Yesterday I decided to mow the lawn. Notice I said Decided. I do not mow the lawn. In fact in a conversation with my daughter she mentioned when she heard this, that she stood there with her mouth gaping open in shock & said she didn't remember her mother ever mowing a lawn during HER lifetime! Well, it took a little thinking about, (26 years is no small thing :*) but I guess other than showing my 11yr old son that "Mom really did know how to mow" and that I could mow more than 3 strips at a time before taking a break because "it's SO hot"...no, I guess I haven't.
Yesterday I mowed the lawn because #1--I wanted some outdoor exercise. #2--I wanted some sun--(read tan!) #3 my three guys are out of town on a job, and although the lawn did need mowed, it could have waited till they were back today or tomorrow, but #4--I felt like proving to all three of them that I REALLY COULD MOW IT!
Am I in danger of having to mow it all the time now? No, first of all my husband likes to mow & would rather do that than many other things. Next of all, boys in town need SOMETHING to do.
Last of all, No one is volunteering to make meals, clean the house, do the laundry, grocery shop, weed the flower beds & do the "mothering" thing with the younger kids in exchange for mowing the lawn.
Oh yes, one more thing. You know how Mom's excel at multi-tasking? Well, along with mowing the lawn yesterday which by my pedometer I walked 15 miles....Along with it I did the flylady missions, washed clothes, did some office work, had lunch with my scrapping buddies and fixed supper. Got 2 little girls to work on cleaning their room and do some outside chores. So really it's not that I couldn't do it and everything else, just that I choose NOT to do it and everything else.
I don't know about you, but most guys I know can not mulitask. They mow, they work on the car, they do their "8-5" job. Sometimes being a woman can be a mixed blessing!
To the guys in my house; I love you dearly, & appreciate all you do, but don't challange me by telling me the lawn can't all be mowed in the same day, or I don't know what hard work this much space is to mow. I'm not likely to feel too sorry for you!!
Oh yes, and it's always a good thing to prove to yourself that you can do something too....It's no fun having to eat your words!

  1. You go mom. Can't say except for showing the boys that you can mow more than just a few strips at a time that I have ever seen you mow but I know I do enjoy it and realized after doing Relyssa's mowing job last year a time or two that I hadn't mowed in 15 years most likely and rather missed it. As far as multi tasking and guys. Haven't met one yet that is very good at it.

  2. Wow, what a busy day! I've never mowed either. (When I was little, my mom wouldn't let me because she 1) considered it dangerous and didn't trust me, possibly, and 2) she didn't want my allergies to flare up. Now we have a John Deere tractor, so I should try it sometime. (My two daughters have both mowed our lawn of nearly one acre and did OK.)

I did serious housework Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for a visit from the workers--more than I've done for several weeks due to my injury. I did OK, but my lower back on the right side around the SI joint did get sore. However, I went to the chiro again today, so I will be OK.

Glad to hear about your children/nephews/niece that recently made their choice! -S.

  3. I've mowed lots of times...although usually with a riding mower, since we have a huge yard. It's been a few years, though, because of my allergies.

I thoroughly approve of your playlist! My mom does too...we both listened to it.

I promise I'll get another blog up soon...maybe tonight! :)

  4. Thanks Heather..Some of my favorite songs..I know, mostly oldies :*) Guess it shows my age, but I love the Statler brothers, John Denver...
I was delighted when I figured out how to put a player on here, the slideshows don't have much selection that I care for.

  5. Your flowers look wonderful. Who needs a vegetable garden when you have such pretty flowers? And look at you go... mowing the lawn!!! I've always been the lawn mower around here. The neighbors always comment to Craig about it. ;) But I do enjoy it and he doesn't. Seems a fair arrangement to me. Craig, of course, brags to the guys he works with that his wife mows the lawn... as a way to prove he's the "King of the Castle" or something like that, I guess. Ha.

  6. Carlin used to mow here until I took over. I love mowing, but it is usual on the riding mower. When Wayne is gone on his summer jobs I even learned to use the weed wacker, though I hate starting it up. I'm really missing the mowing right now since I can't but when I can again I want to push mow it and get some miles in, too! Great Job!

  8. Mom re: your playlist. I like it too specially the "let them be little" song. But you might want to do something about the song on the slideshow of Dalayna. Because it plays over your other music and I can't hear it then.

  9. I do like your playlist - and I especially like the Statler Brothers, too!(I'm a few years younger than you, too - so maybe I just have 'older' taste! Then again, I have learned a lot about 60s and 70s music from Russs, too.) I like that gospel harmony - wish you had more of them on there, even.

  10. @Laura-Thanks, I think I got it off, I didn't realize it still went on, guess I never went back & scrolled down far enough!!
@Lanae-I like the gospel harmony too, I plan to look for some more when I have a chance! Usually when I sit down to look at songs, my mind goes blank & I can't remember!
