Mothers day

My lovely mother in law with 2 of her 7 kids--Leon, and Elaine.

A lovely dinner--prime rib, mashed potatoes, cream cheese corn, fruit and salad.
My family knows that Mothers day is the one day a year that I really prefer NOT to go out.  Too long of waits, too many people.  We've done alot of things over the years--when my older kids girls were home, they made several memorable mothers day meals.
This year my husband said he and the kids were going to cook.  well.........o.k. it's not they don't know how do do any cooking or kitchen work,  lets just say that even tho they know the basics, pulling the whole thing off and getting it all done and on the table at the same time is a bit more complicated than they are used to.
The boys did bring the drinks, Ryan the pies, & Derek flowers for me.  Leon cooked the steaks & Morgen peeled the potatoes, so that was pretty good for starters! Elaine brought the fruit salad, and mashed the potatoes, Meshayla got the salad on the table and made an awesome cheesecake.  I tried a new recipe for Rosemary bread.  It was good, but needed to bake a bit longer.  I'll try it again when I'm not in such a hurry.  The younger kids did the clean up and dishes--thankfully the parts for my dishwasher came the other day.  Days like this are 3 or 4 full load runs!
 Derek, Dawn & kids
Desserts--Strawberry, chocolate, banana cream pie and berry cheesecake!
Me with my boys--  They make me feel small!

Our group today--Mothers day, May 2011  I'm so thankful that I have a few of my kids close enough to us to spend special days together--(or any days!)
Flowers from my son--Thank you Derek!

 And Longaburger from my husband!
It's been a beautiful day, and I am very blessed!

More Music

Kara and Kaela have been taking piano lessons just a little under a year now. This spring was their first time at public performances.
Their teacher, Jane entered them in a talent show in March and the girls worked hard learning their pieces & memorizing them. Both girls played two songs and although they didn't place, they did a wonderful job on their playing

Kaela~ along with her first public performance, she had to go first.

I believe the judges were music students from the collage here.

The crew who tallied the scores & wrote out the certificates

Yesterday the girls had their first recital. When Jane told me who she was having the c0-recital with, I thought it was pretty ironical that it was with a teacher (Karen D.) that my sisters and I had taken lessons from when we were teens. Also a couple of my older girls had lessons with her too!
Yeah, I goofed, I missed a great photo op!

As I was zooming in on the kids playing, I noticed the reflection of their hands.
I thought it was pretty cool. A while back someone else did this for one of the photos on our photo challenge blog.

And this last picture? Well no piano or violin music here, But I think maybe this qualifies for melody for the soul.

20 and 21 of 52...

Well, it's taken me nearly all day (inbetween everything else) to get this post done. At least I'm picking up internet inside today, so I can sit at the table instead of on the front steps. Also I got my mouse from my desktop on here, so I work better with it. Got a flash drive to transfer some pictures from my desktop to my laptop....so you'd think I was all set now, huh! We'll see. I definitly prefer working on my desktop, I know that for sure!! My helpers planting my flower beds. (Meshayla, Kara & Kaela)

Is there anything prettier than lilacs at Mothers day time? I LOVE them!

My 4 youngest girls, the ones still at home.

My boys...pretty soon #3 will be taller than me too!

My youngest 5 at home plus two older brothers here in town.

Mothers day dinner. The guys grilled steaks (picture on former post) Leon and the boys had really intended to make the rest of the dinner for me too, however somehow Sat. got here, the groceries hadn't gotten bought, & Leon got called into work that afternoon/eve. What's a mom to do anyway? I went and bought the groceries & put together a couple things the night before, Leon stopped at the store & bought a cheesecake & Sunday he and the kids did do MOST of the work getting dinner on the table. Plus all the cleaning up. It was a delicious meal!

My sister in law & Mother in law. We invited them to have lunch with us.
Gma J and her grandkids from this house.

This is our basement family room where I put my BIG table. I already have a 2nd fridge, my freezer & a counter down there, now I'm in the process of getting another set of cabinets w/sink along another wall. When I add a stove down there too, I'll have it made! It will work so wonderful for our big family dinners, potlucks & to use for a canning kitchen to keep the mess seperate from my main floor kitchen!

Mothers day

Saturday I took my mom to the nursery, and bought her a new tree for her yard, if you remember the pictures last year around this time, she lost 3 of them in her yard, & it's looked pretty bare!
Later that afternoon I went back & bought me flowers & spent quite a while getting (part of them) planted. Still more to go.
Sunday we had Leon's mom & sister over for lunch, and the guys grilled steaks & they & the girls helped make lunch. That evening I got the lovely 2009 longaberger "mothers day" basket.
Phone calls from all my girls "away from home"--Jeanne, Jana, Laura & Dalayna on Saturday & Sunday helped make my day special!

For some reason I'm not having any luck getting blogger to load anymore pictures. It just keeps going & going & finally tells me "failed". Ugg
I'll just post this for now. Hopefully It will start working again before Thursday. (at least!!)

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

Happy Mothers Day to all my Blogging friends Family & readers!
Happy birthday today (May 11) to my niece Emily!
Photos from our day this year ended up clear at the end of this post. Sorry!
May 2007
Jeanne, my oldest, The one I started my journey of motherhood with. I love you!

The young mother set her foot on the path of life. 'Is
this the long way?' she asked. And the guide said: 'Yes, and the way is
hard.
And you will be old before you reach the end of it.. But
the end will be better than the beginning.'

But the young mother was happy, and she would not
believe that anything could be better than these years. So she
played with her children, and gathered flowers for
them along the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and
the sun shone on them, and the young Mother cried,
'Nothing will ever be lovelier than this.'

Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was
dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother
drew them close and covered them with her mantle, and the children said,
'Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come.'

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and
the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary.
But at all times she said to the children,' A little patience and we are
there.'
So the children climbed, and when they reached the top
they said, 'Mother, we would not have done it without you.'

And the mother, when she lay down at night looked up
at the stars and said, 'This is a better day than the last, for my
children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave
them courage.
Today, I 've given them strength.'

And the next day came strange clouds which darkened
the earth, clouds of war and hate and evil, and the children groped
and stumbled, and the mother said: 'Look up. Lift your eyes to the light.
' And the children looked and saw above the clouds
an everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the
darkness.' And that night the Mother said,
'This is the best day of all, for
I have shown my children God.'

And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and
the years, and the mother grew old and she was little and bent.
But her children were tall and strong, and walked with
courage. And when the way was rough, they lifted her,
for she was as light as a feather; and at last they came to a hill,
and beyond they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And
mother said, 'I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end
is better than the beginning, for my children can
walk alone, and their children after them.'

And the children said, 'You will always walk with us,
Mother, even when you have gone through the gates.'
And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates
closed after her. And they said: 'We cannot see her
but she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She
is a living presence.......'

Your Mother is always with you.... She's the whisper
of the leaves as you walk do wn the street; she's the smell of bleach
in your freshly laundered socks; she's the cool hand
on your brow when you're not well. Your Mother lives
inside your laughter. And she's crystallized in every tear drop.
She's the place you came from, your first home; and
she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love
and your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth can
separate you.

Not time, not space... not even death!

another favorite of mine is HERE
and HERE'S another.
Thanks Susan & Lani!
