Boys and bikes

Trey got to come spend a couple days with us this week while the kids are on spring break.
Morgen rides BMX and Trey has been quite the avid admirer of  his Uncle "Mo".  He's been A little dare-devil on his own bike ever since he learned to ride it, and last summer he was so thrilled to get to go watch Morgen at one of his races.
He's wanted to get to go ride on the track sometime himself, so today it worked out to take the boys to ride while the girls were having piano lessons.
It was windy--threatening rain, (which thankfully didn't materialize for Trey's sake!)
During the time they were at the track we got a big chuckle out of him asking Morgen "When are the rest of them coming"?  Morgen had to explain that this wasn't a race day, they were just there to practice & no one else would be coming.  I think he was a bit disappointed.

We'd taken quite a few pictures, but it was getting close to time to go before we realized that we needed to do a video of him, so he's all for that (Got to show mom, you know!)
He'd been going non-stop for about 45 minutes, even wiping out 3 or 4 times, and now he's peddling as fast  as his little legs on the even littler bike would go .  He's about 3/4 thru his ride, reaches the top of the hill, stops, rubs his eyes & says "Whew, I'm really tired".  Meshayla, trying to film says "Keep going, you're just about finished."  But he WAS finished, he rode off the track over to the fence.  DONE!

Unfortunately the video won't transfer to the computer :(
It was so cute, but the slide show will have to do.

Next on the list.....replace the WINTER SNOW picture up there at the top of my blog!!

47 of 52 weeks-Morgen's birthday

His present. He's been bmx riding for a couple years now, and has really been wanting a good bike. Since he's been working with his dad since the end of summer, he wanted to take his earnings and buy one and had been haunting the local bike store, looking over all the options. Earlier in the day Leon went and paid for it and took a happy birthday sign down and put it on the one he was wishing for. He wanted his cousins/friend to come over to spend the afternoon with him and go to the bmx track to ride so on the way out to the track with his old bike they detoured by the store and went to "show" the boys the bike options.
A new bike owner deserves a good helmet too, the one he's been wearing was not a heavy duty one, so now he's all fixed up to do some winning first thing next season!

I gave him the option..."Do you want mom to decorate the cake, or do you want to"? Answer...."If it's bmx, then I want to". That's a good solution, then they can't complain about mom's ideas!

Happy Birthday Morgen!! My last boy just turned a teenager!

A post for Morgen

Morgen discovered bmx racing a couple years ago, tried it out and really wanted to do it. It didn't work out for him to actually join until this spring when the season started again. This summer he's been at the track to race nearly every week, and likes to go out to it in between to practice when he has a chance.

\

The track, early spring at the beginning of the season.

Before the actual races start, all the racers ride the track as a group while the National Anthem is played. There's always one biker in the lead carrying a flag. Kind of fun to see!

Lining up...I don't think he's in this picture.

At the starting gate, ready to roll!

One of the curves. I don't think Morgen was actually in this picture.

One week this summer his friend was visiting, and went out to watch Morgen race. He found out he could race too as a guest, Both boys ended up with a trophy that night. Morgen would love to have one of his friends around to bmx with on a regular basis!

Kaela's watching pretty close how this works, she is fascinated by the racing, and thinks she would like to try it too! At this particular race she got to barrow a bike & helmet and ride the track!

Morgen's birthday party

So we had another birthday party here! Yes, that's all we do is party......! LOL
Morgen wanted to forgo our traditional big extended family bash that we generally do for birthdays, so he had his 3 cousins & friend Nathan K here only. Leon took them out for lunch, then to bowling alley play center, then they spent several hours at the park with their scateboards, then came home for cake & ice-cream bars. Wow, no stress party for this mom!
Except the cake of course, which was fun, but kind of flopped. I need more practice, but don't really like to eat cake too much....It was good, but mostly because of the yummy vanilla cheesecake filling that I put in it!!
Happy Birthday Morgen, have a great year being 12!!
By the way, thank you in advance for NOT asking what the cake is!! LOL! Morgen knew right away, even tho I hadn't told him what I was doing, & he was happy with it & it was yummy, so that's all that matters, right?!

Happy Birthday to Morgen!

Today is Morgen's 12th birthday, but I didn't get his pictures posted. Friday morning I left to take Kyrie back to Sidney, taking Morgen & Meshayla with me for the weekend.
Friday night and Saturday Lynisha and I and Jeanne went to a scrapbooking get-together.
Morgen hung out with Jim & Meshayla ended up watching Kyrie & Trey, as their other grammy couldn't come and get them for the weekend due to bad weather/roads. We had a great time scrapbooking, eating and gabbing. Today we went out to lunch for Jim & Morgen's birthday, and then left to come home late afternoon. It's always nice heading out west, "gaining" an hour, but a downer getting home and "losing" an hour.
Tomorrow I hope to get Morgen's birthday post up, & we'll probably have a party later in the week.

Back to school day

Meshayla & Relyssa...grumpy about having to have the annual back to school photo taken...(by all means, DON'T smile!) I was quite shocked when I put these two girls together and saw how much Meshayla has grown! She's caught up with Relyssa!
As an 8th grader now, this is Meshayla's last year in Middle school. Relyssa is a Junior.
My younger 3 were all up and ready long before it was time to leave, at least they are still excited about school. That does make life easier.
Kara, now a 4th grader, & Morgen a 5th grader are in the same room, and Kaela goes into the "middle room" as a 2nd grader. This is Morgen's last year in our little grade school.

I can't hardly believe it's another school year already! I have quite mixed emotions going on this morning..."Oh no!~ summer's over, and it just began.." "Yea!~...Fall is my favorite time of year" (The down side to that is, that fall turns into winter)
"Yea!~ The kids are out of the house and gone all day & I can get back to routines"..."OH my, ...I HATE dealing with school government, policies, school related problems, homework, daily school runs, kids grumpiness in "having to go to school", morning grumpiness in getting them up, ready & out the door"...... Compromise. Since I'm not ready to homeschool again, I have to deal with it. Maybe someday again, I loved those years & hated to give it up, but life changes & this is the way it is for now.

NOT a skate board!!

It's a "Rip-stick" and it's the latest thing around here for the kids to do. Two swivel wheels instead of 4. Can't balance on the thing myself, but it sure is fun to see the kids on them!

We have rednecks in NE too....

This has been here for years. All seasons. I suppose the farmer has put new bales out occasionally, but otherwise, it sits off the side of the highway, with the sign, for the amusement of cars passing by.
The kids have always thought it was funny, so thanks to my S-I-L...Morgen got his picture taken at the rest stop on their way home from G. meeting Sunday.........

It's snow fun

Morgen talked dad into using the snowblower to blow the snow onto his igloo so he could make it bigger! What were those rings that "appeared" in peoples fields some years back?? makes our back yard look kinda funny now, but he's sure had fun with it. Now he's managed to tunnel thru
to meet his top opening. I asked him if he was going to have door's all around it, but he said that the others were just "false" doors!
